Mookata has been sprouting up all around the place, proving that this Thai Steamboat is getting more popular in Singapore. I first had Mookata in Golden Mile, going home with a full belly, fun time with friends and smelling like I got smoked like smoke
I'm really pleased to share about this Mookata shop in Toa Payoh/ Braddell.

What I love about it ?

1. Near Upper Thomson Road!!
2. Best price
3. Lots of parking lots
4.  Open Air

This shop is located in the food court of an industrial estate so I expect it gets really crowded during lunch time. I don't think you'd want to eat barbecue or steamboat in the afternoon because you would be sweaty and uncomfortable. I went there at night and it was the best location we could ask for as there was plenty of parking, and the open air seating meant it was cooling and our clothes didn't smell strongly of barbecue when we went home.

One set costs $32 and comes with one plate of assorted meat and one plate of vegetables.  Super worth it because I've been to places that serves much less, for more expensive. Some places squeeze veggies and meat onto one plate. I was so suprised with the generous serving here.

I feel that it's also very traditional as they cook using charcoal, instead of the usual portable gas stoves. No need to ask them to change the gas canister and feel frustrated.

Add the leek into the soup to make it sweeter. Later on, the juice from the cooking meats will flow into the soup and make it more tasty too. The soup taste constantly changes.

Macritchie Reservoir Things To Do

Macritchie Reservoir Things To Do

There's lots to do in Macritchie Reservoir. Mainly because it's very big, it has to be if it's a water catchment area that collects rain water and then comes out from our pipes as drinking water. There's the HSBC TreeTop Walk, various walking trails, and even a off-the-track Shinto Shrine (which I just found out about while doing research for this post).

But I'm gonna give you a peek into Upper Thomson Road living, and what I would usually do at Macritchie. The simplest things can bring happiness and this doesn't require too much time. I doubt that I would do this often if I didn't live near to this beautiful park.

Zig Zag Bridge

Macritchie Reservoir Things To Do

Some days I just want to be out in nature, breathe some fresh air, let loose from the stress of daily life. Not planning to spend too long here, I'll take a walk along the zigzag bridge, then come back around to where I started. It's easy to spot tortoises/terrapins here and some fishes if you look carefully. There's a submerged boardwalk that they recently added too. I really like coming here because I had a band performance in the platform area just after it was newly renovated. My family stood on the opposite side and could barely hear the music we played but I have such fond memories of it. Will be a unforgettable part of my life.

Wildlife is all around you in Macritchie, if only you make use of your senses to spot them. You don't have to venture too far in the forest. Can you spot the beautiful lizards in the pictures below?

If you hear a rustling sound on the grass or in the bushes, it could be a lizard. Look out for them, you'll need to have good hearing and sharp eyes to do so. If in sight and you want to get closer, move slowly so you don't startle it and you might be able to take a picture !

I usually spend about 1 hour at Macritchie just to enjoy the greenery and peaceful surroundings. I might just find a bench and sit somewhere to enjoy the silence. On days that I want to challenge myself, I'd walk to Jelutong Tower.

Macritchie Reservoir Walk

Planning a half day walk on one of the Macritchie Reservoir trails may be too ambitious. I think taking some time out to enjoy nature can bring peace and rejuvenation. So if you feel too lazy to spend 4hours in the forest, just set a time limit and explore around the carpark. Reward yourself with a healthy meal afterwards at Mushroom Cafe located beside the locker/changing room/toilet just next to the carpark. Super convenient.

Habitat Coffee Review

Habitat Coffee Review

On my first visit, I only ordered coffee and was pretty impressed. So I went back for a second visit and a food review !

Habitat Coffee Review
Cutlery Holder

The pasta has big pieces of sausage, which taste freshly made and good quality. Freshly made processed sausages are a real thing right. It's somewhat like a usual Carbonara, but the sauce isn't as heavy, so I would go for this again.

Oh, I was really glad cos the Shepherd's Pie is made of CHICKEN. Which seemed quite unusual but good at the same time. So if you like the mashed potato on top, but don't really eat beef or lamb, do try this one at Habitat Coffee. Would it be considered Halal?

I'm not a big fan of Truffle Fries, but Truffle Oil is quite expensive which seems to make it more popular and taste nicer. To me, it's a bit of an acquired taste, but I still couldn't help my hands from grabbing another and another and another of the crunchy fries.

Hello Truffle Fries
 Dessert time !
It must be the good coffee, or the irish cream that made this so tasty. I wonder if the barrister would make a new cup if the art on the top turned out ugly. Coffee art always puts a smile on my face, though they only last for the few moments.

Top shelf of the cake display, I saw this cake and was immediately drawn to it. Left the last 2 slices, so it should be quite popular. Glad that it didn't disappoint me.

Salted Caramel Carrot Cake
Not the best waffles I've had as they're made to be crispy. It says somewhere in the menu "crispy waffles" so they probably taste better with some melted ice cream. Drowned them in maple syrup instead.

Belgian Waffles
And here's my ever-favorite Affogato. A scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream, and a shot of espresso. The experience of pouring the espresso over the ice cream yourself is much more satisfying than having it served to you already mixed. The first mouth of hot coffee with ice cold ice cream is the best.

Habitat Coffee Singapore Review

Overall, I have to say that I highly recommend Habitat Coffee because the food, desserts and drinks are all really good. Definitely try the Affogato if you haven't had one before. The food selection is just sufficient that I can feel each dish is well prepared. It's tasty, it's hot and fresh. There's really nothing I can complain about the food we ordered.

I just love places that don't add GST/Service charge such as Habitat Coffee. The prices are affordable, so I will definitely come back when I crave for pasta.

It's got a good location, with a bus stop just outside, that my friends found it so convenient.

Thank you Habitat Coffee for adding to the vibrant food/coffee scene at Upper Thomson !!
