Hwa Nam Restaurant Upper Thomson Road

Hwa Nam Restaurant is one of those traditional coffee shops that give you a sense of what it was like in Singapore way before Ion was built. The usual thing you spot when you walk past is their Dim Sum which is on display for you to choose and will be heat up on the spot. They also offer Roast Meats and Tze Char.
I personally like to go for the Dim Sum as it has this nostalgic and authentic feeling. It's also conveniently located along Upper Thomson Road. Because it's a coffeeshop, prices are very affordable and my favorite No GST and No Service Charge.
Clockwise from the top:
Xiao Long Bao
Siew Mai
Mushroom and Minced Meat
Crabstick with Pork
Har Gow
My favorite is the mushroom with minced meat. One whole chinese mushroom atop juicy fresh meat. It's full of flavor and mushroom taste goodness.
Ordered fish porridge because they didn't have Century Egg porridge. There's also chicken and duck porridge. The interesting thing is that they have cabbage inside the porridge which can be a bit shocking, but actually a very good idea. It's healthier and in a way forces you to have a dose of fibre. They use grass carp, which is similar to Crystal Jade.
Was quite full so i didn't order the Egg Tart (which I usually would) because it's fluffy and I love the pastry.

Dim Sum Upper Thomson Hwa Nam Restaurant

If you're craving for Dim Sum at affordable price, do check out Hwa Nam because this kind of Old School Coffee Shops are getting fewer and fewer. It may just be a matter of time that they will renevote, upgrade or even change owner. It is always nice to have some piece of heritage to hold on to. At night, I mostly see people ordering Zi Char, and in particular the Hor Fun.
